Pilot Interview Process

Pilots who are invited to interview for employment with PHI can expect to participate in:

  • An assessment of aviation knowledge covering
           – FAR Part 61
                 –  Subpart A - General
           – FAR Part 91
                 –  Subpart A - General
                 –  Subpart B - Flight Rules - General
                 –  Subpart B - Flight Rules - Visual Flight Rules
           – FAR Part 135
                 –  Subpart B - Flight Operations
                 –  Subpart D - VFR/IFR Operating Limitations and Weather Requirements
           – Aeronautical Information Manual
                 –  Chapter 3 - Airspace
                 –  Chapter 7 - Safety of Flight
                 –  Chapter 7 - Weather Observing Programs
  • An interview flight under VFR in a Bell 206 aircraft. Applicant will be expected to perform the functions of a Pilot in Command at the Commercial Pilot Testing Standards. The applicant will be asked to perform a cross-country flight to a location within 25nm of the Lafayette Louisiana Airport. PHI will provide the following:
           – Properly equipped aircraft
           – South Central Airport/Facility Directory
           – Houston - Section Aeronautical Chart
           – Facility to obtain weather and notam information
           – Headset
               Aircraft used for interviews are equipped with one of the following GPS units
               (knowledge of these units is desirable but not required; use of the
               Aeronautical Chart for navigation is essential):
                 –  Trimble 2000
                 –  Garmin GPS 150
                 –  Magellan Skylab 5000

      –  Bell 206 experience is desirable but not required.

      –  PHI's instructor pilot will assist the applicant with aircraft starting and operation
          of the general aircraft systems. However, the applicant will be expected to
          perform all other functions such as navigation and communications.

  • An interview with PHI Management Personnel.

Successful applicants who accept employment with PHI will receive a self-study program which must be completed prior to reporting for the Pilot Training Program.
